Wastewater project is brewing

A proposal to use highly treated recycled wastewater to bolster local water supplies is picking up speed. On Thursday, Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency officials announced they plan to ramp up a proposed "groundwater replenishment" project in an attempt to offer the Peninsula another option for replacing the water to be lost under a state-ordered cutback in pumping from the Carmel River.
